The Cliffs Of Moher County Clare Ireland.
A deserving finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition, the Cliffs rise up to 702 feet (at their highest point) and are a 'must see' spectacle when visiting county Clare.
They are approximately 8 kilometers long and are located at the south-western corner of the Burren a little ways north of the little fishing village of Liscannor.
Almost in the middle is the tower built by Sir Cornelius O'Brien to impress his female consorts and visitors can view the Aran Islands and the peaks of Connemara in the distance across Galway Bay from the top of this oddity which surely must end up in the ocean at some time in the future.
One million visitors each year come to see the Cliffs making it the top ranked attraction in Ireland. The sheer walls consist of shale and sandstone and it is possible to see 300 million year old river channels cut into the rock near the bottom.

Our Favourite Stop Off Point
Whenever we visit the Cliffs with friends we always stop off at the lovely village of Liscannor about 2 miles from Lahinch and a few minutes south of the entrance to the interpretive center.
Vaughan's Liscannor
There are a number of great places there for food and refreshments and also accommodation.
Vaughan's Anchor Inn an award winning restaurant has some mouth watering seafood and steaks and although it is a little bit more pricey the meals are always fabulous.
Other pubs in Liscannor are Joseph McHugh's and Egans and there might be a music session in one or other of them in the evening.
